 RAVENA – Mary Bricoccoli Vasto, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Vasto who died December 9, 2007. Mary was born in Schenectady. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and Russell Sage College School of Nursing, Class of 1947. She was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps from 1944 to 1947. Her name is on the register of the women in Military Service for America in Arlington, VA.
Mary went on to become a public health nurse with the Albany County Department of Health, receiving her Public Health Degree through Russell Sage College and Syracuse University. She retired in 1989 from the NYS Department of Civil Service Employee Health Service. Throughout her career, she belonged to several professional organizations.
Mary was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena and a long time member of the church Choir and an active member of the Columbietts Mother McAuley Council #3424.
Mary and Joe enjoyed traveling especially their trips to Maine. After retirement she became an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with her friends and former co-workers. Joe was so proud of her two holes in one. Every morning she looked forward to her walks and breakfast with her close and most wonderful and valued friends, Mary Jane, Teresa, Kathy, Elizabeth and Rosemary.
Survivors include her wonderful, loving son Gregory (Victoria); terrific granddaughter, Alicia Ann, all of Massillon, OH; sister-in-law, Lydia Bricoccoli of Ballston Lake; brother-in-law, Carmin (Janet) Vasto of Ravena; many wonderful and caring nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; and Al and Trish Visconti who she considered her extended family. Mary was predeceased by her sister Olga Gemi and brother Anthony Bricoccoli.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 14th at St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Coeymans. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday from 4 to 6 PM. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143.
