COEYMANS HOLLOW –
Lawrence E. Osterhout, age 80, passed away on March 6. He was born
in Albany on July 20, 1929, son of the late Egbert C. and Louise (Durfee)
Osterhout. As a lifelong resident of Coeymans Hollow, he graduated
from Ravena Coeymans Cooperating Schools in 1947. For many years,
he and his brother owned and operated H.C. Osterhout & Son, a family
John Deere equipment business established by their father and
grandfather in 1930. He enjoyed family vacations in the Adirondacks
at Fish Creek his whole life and was an avid cabinetmaker and wood
craftsman. He was a member of the Coeymans Hollow Fire Company,
voted in at 16 years of age under a special vote, where he served as
firefighter, president, financial secretary and one of the first
members of the Board of Fire Commissioners at its inception. He was
also a 20-year member of the Town of Coeymans Planning Board.
Survivors include
his wife of 59 years, R. Catherine (Dopp) Osterhout; children,
Donald (Deborah) Osterhout, Cynthia (Arthur) LaFlamme and Timothy
(Terry) Osterhout; grandchildren, Bradley, Kyle (Tracy), Megan,
Danielle, Brianna, Jeffrey, Aria and Addisen; great-grandchildren,
Nicole and Tyler; sister-in-law, Austa Cole; and several nieces,
nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his
brother Leland D. Osterhout.
Funeral services
will be held 11 AM Wednesday, March 10th at the Babcock Funeral
Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Coeymans Hollow Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM.
Contributions in lieu of flowers in memory of Larry may be made to
the Trinity United Methodist Church or the Coeymans Hollow Fire
Department. |
