COBLESKILL – Miriam G. Hotaling, formerly of Ravena, died peacefully
at the home of her son in Central Bridge, NY on Monday, March 21,
2011 after a brief illness at the age of 97. Miriam, “Mim”, was a
devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a
graduate of Ravena High School, where if asked she would tell you of
her winning basketball shot to help win the title. Mim continued her
education and was a graduate of Albany Business College. From there
she worked for the former NY Central Railroad in Albany. She had
also a short stay at U.S. Plywood and the NY Legislature. Her final
place of employment was at Exxon in Glenmont until Exxon’s move to
Mim was a founding member of the Ravena-Coeymans Boat Club Ladies
Auxiliary. Upon retirement Mim and her late husband, Staats, moved
to Wells, Maine where they enjoyed many years together.
Mim was the wife of the late Staats Hotaling and mother of the late
Scott Hotaling. Survivors include her son Tom (retired member of
NYSP) and his wife Paula; daughter-in-law, Roberta (Hotaling) Cross;
4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Gerken, Kelly Hotaling, Bruce
(Mary) Hotaling and Mark (Renee) Hotaling; two great-grandchildren,
Madison and Nicholas Gerken along with nieces and nephews.
A time of viewing will be held at the Babcock Funeral Home in Ravena
on Saturday, March 26th from 1 to 3 PM, followed by a short service.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that a donation be made to either
the Catskill Area Hospice or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
