RAVENA – John S. Gatt, 80, went to be with the angels on March 11, 2010.  John was born on the Island of Crete.  As a young man he made his way to London, England where he met and married the love of his life Gwendoline.  They were happily married for 59 years.  They moved to Ravena in 1963.  John was always involved in business.  He was successful in whatever he did, but was always restless to try something new.

     Those who knew John saw a man who was hard-working, caring and generous.  His family and community will miss him greatly.

     He is survived by his wife, Gwendoline;  son, Jonathan of Ravena;  brothers, Anthony (Alice) of Coxsackie and Ortes and family of London;  sister Clota and family of London;  nephews, Steven and family of Voorheesville, Andrew and family of Durham, NC and Michael of Coxsackie.

     John’s last wish was to be cremated without fanfare.  As such, there will be no calling hours.  Contributions in memory of John may be made to the charity of your choice.
