  RAVENA – George Hugo Bachert, 79, passed away March 26, 2011 in Sebastian, FL. George was born July 13, 1931 in Maspeth, NY son of the late Nicholas G. and Ann Hinek Bachert. Survivors include his loving wife Arlene D. Bachert; children, Elizabeth (Benjamin) Horton, Maria (John) O’Hare and George H. Bachert, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael, Erica and Mathew Horton, Nicholas and Jake Fox; step-children; Kevin (Toni) Babcock, Craig (Dori) Babcock, Laura (Frank) Baird; step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Justin, Justin Jr., Ava Babcock and Alexa Green. George was predeceased by stepson Brian Babcock and step-grandson Ayden Green.
George was in the US Maine Corps during the Korean War. He was past Commodore and Life member of the Coxsackie Yacht Club. George was a member of the Ironworkers Local 40, NY City and Life member of International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers. His proudest achievement was laying the first piece of steel and being superintendent of the first building to go up in the World Trade Center. He came to the Albany area to work on the building of the South Mall and moved to Ravena at that time.
Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Thursday, April 14th from 4 to 7 PM. A service with military honors will be held 12:30 on Friday, April 15th at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
